How to obtain a Copy of your Credit File
There are several reasons why you might want to obtain a copy of your credit file:
- To protect your future financial reputation you should know exactly what is contained in you credit file. If you have borrowed money (credit card, mortgage or car) then you will have a 'credit file'. Your credit file is your financial reputation that banks, retailers and other credit providers access when deciding whether to lend you money or not.
- If you have had an application for credit refused, you need to know what information in your credit file influenced the credit provider’s decision.
- To ensure that you have not become the victim of identity fraud. One of the most common forms of credit fraud is committed when someone obtains your identity details and uses them to obtain credit for themselves. Not only could you be financially liable for debts you did not incur, your credit reputation could be severely damaged.
If you have any concerns that your credit file may contain incorrect or fraudulent information, you need to see your credit file now!!!
